Hey Mister, where are
yer Easter clothes ?
An Easter Fashion Parade
You
could say they were just showing off and why not ? Three little
girls, totally lost in a wonder world as they watched themselves doing
twirls in their new clothes on the security monitor. Suddenly, the
fashion show ended, as they realised they had an audience !
Unfortunately, I was the victim as their spokesperson looked at me in my
crumpled suit and simply said: Hey mister, where are yer Easter clothes ?"
Nice feathers make
nice birds
In my schooldays we had a proverb which said: "Cuir sioda ar ghabhar and
is gabhar i gconai e." (Put silk on a goat and it is always a goat).
It was a mischievous saying that there were some people you just could not
simply dress). however it was counteracted by a much more kindly
proverb: "Deanann cleiteacha deasa eanacha deasa" (nice feathers
make nice birds !) That is why I love weddings - dressed in new
clothes, everyone simply not only looks, but feels ten years younger.
Eight resplendent
people
At our Easter Vigil this year eight people are welcomed into our
worshipping community. With them, all of us in St. Peters in this
united community, of diverse and enriching communities can hear echoes of
that lovely Baptismal moment when the Minister says: "See in this
white garment, the outward sign of your Christian dignity"
"I just wouldn't know you dressed like that"
Could you blame Mary
Magdalen for saying something like that to Jesus. He was dressed in
gardening clothes. Yes, these are his Easter clothes. Just as
he was the gardener of her soul, so the risen Christ tends to the garden
of our souls this day.
Linen creases !
The fashion experts tell
us that linen creases. In the tomb of the risen Christ there are two
pieces, the creased and the crumpled one which had been wrapped around His
body, the other rolled up in a place by itself. This rolled up piece
without a crease, is the new clothing for the risen Christ, and for us.
We may not do a twirl for the camera, but at least we will now have our
Easter clothes !!
