And “Is it good to talk?” …

There are all kinds of situations that arise and prompt people to complain “ two’s company, three’s a crowd.” Nowadays it is the beeping, buzzing or barking of a mobile phone which so often cuts across two people in conversation. And whether it is around the table of the Lord or the dinner table, the mobile menace knows no bounds.

The family of God, the Blessed Trinity, where the Spirit is the bond of love between Father and Son, is God’s proof of the power of persons truly present to each other. The mobile mindset, with its allies, the portable CD and the iPod, are often a public proclamation on trains, planes, buses and in the busy marketplace of our decision not to engage with the people around us.  The beep-beep that cuts across our communing and  calls us to attend to the busyness of business continues to cramp the power of people truly present to each other in family and in community.

Our God, a community of persons, mirrors still the mystery of presence, personal and purposeful, a presence more profound than our present day pressured patter that dares to proclaim “it’s good to talk.”
