“…God will fulfil all your needs…”

One does not need a crystal ball to see that we are entering tough times from an economic point of view.  Following years of prosperity, it is obvious that recession is looming.  The only certainty has to do with its length and severity.  Unemployment is bound to rise and money will be in shorter supply.  While, those of us who are older can remember hard times in the past, all of this will be new to younger citizens.  However, it is likely that people, both young and old, will react with fear and apprehension.

St Paul has sage advice to offer us in this week’s second reading.  “I know how to be poor and I know how to be rich too.  I have been through my initiation and now I am ready for anything anywhere:  full stomach or empty stomach, poverty or plenty.  There is nothing I cannot master with the help of the One who gives me strength.”

So let’s trust in God.
