Your wedding is a time of celebration and joy.  Here at St. Peter's we want to help you plan and prepare for this special day in the best way possible.  We hope the information which follows is helpful and look forward to meeting you in person to discuss your needs for this special day.

Church Booking

When you have decided to marry, contact the parish office at 353 01 8389708  to book your date and arrange an appointment to see a Priest.  Traditionally couples go to the home parish of the bride but they can go to either parish if they wish. It is advisable to make arrangements about the date and the time well in advance in order to avoid disappointment.  In the Dublin Diocese weddings are not permitted on Sundays, Holy days of obligation, Holy Thursday, Good Friday or Holy Saturday.

The Church requires a minimum of three months notice of the intended wedding.

Paperwork Process
When you meet with the Priest, he will go through an official document, called a  Pre-Nuptial Enquiry.  You will also need:

  • Baptismal
    Certificates

  • Confirmation Certificates

  • Letters of
    Freedom

Baptismal and Confirmation certificates can be requested from the parish in which you were baptised.

A letter of freedom is a document stating that a person has not already entered a contract of Marriage and is free to marry.  You can get this from the priest at the parish where you currently live.  If you have lived for more than six months away from your home parish, you should  also get a letter of freedom from that parish also.  If you need further clarification on this, we can assist you when you come for your appointment.

Mixed Marriages
If one of you is not a member of the Catholic Faith, we need to apply for a dispensation from the Impediment of Mixed Religion from the Archbishop.  We will be pleased to help and advise you in acquiring any necessary dispensation).

Pre-Marriage Preparation Courses
As Priests it is our responsibility to ensure to the best of our ability that you are well prepared for marriage.  It is also a directive from the  Dublin Diocese that all couples intending to marry attend a pre-marriage course.  The course will give you a chance to meet others who are getting married and facing the same challenges, hopes and dreams.  It is strongly recommended that each couple prepare for marriage by attending one of the many courses provided at various centers in the diocese. It is advisable to arrange to attend one of these courses about one year before the date of your wedding. Information and booking forms are available from ACCORD, the Catholic Marriage Care Service in Ireland.  The local office is at
 7 Dalymount, Phibsboro, Dublin 7. Tel. 01 8680028.

Papal Blessing
If you wish to apply for a Papal Blessing an application can be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a priest in the parish. The parchments are arranged by :Veritas, Abbey St, Dublin 1 / The Franciscans, Merchants Quay, Dublin 8 /St. Martins Apostolate, 42 Parnell Square, Dublin 1.

Church Offerings
Every effort is made to have the church in perfect condition on your wedding day. This involves heating, lighting, decor and insurance for all visitors and guests. It is customary to make an offering in appreciation of and to defray the cost of the facilities provided. The suggested offering in St. Peter’s Church, Phibsboro, is :

The Church €100
The Sacristan €40.00
Altar Servers €20.00 (each)
Music: Organist €80.00 - €100  Singer €80.00 - €100

Photographs
We would appreciate if you would ask your photographer to be as discreet and as unobtrusive as possible during the Marriage Ceremony, so as not to disturb the flow of the occasion.  Most photographers, if requested, will be happy to oblige and will still capture
those special moments.

Confetti
Confetti is very hard to clean up.  Please refrain your guests and save us the extra work.  Thank you.
